MBA Member Donations To Segs4Vets Exceed 2019 Goal

Banking community raises more than $84,000 for injured veterans

2019 Donation to Segs4Vets
MBA presented a check for $80,396 to Segs4Vets during its Executive Management Conference in St. Louis. Since then, donations from the banking community have exceeded $84,000. Col. Al Kisler with Segs4Vets, MBA Chairman Shaun Burke with Guaranty Bank in Springfield, Zach Parker with Segs4Vets, MBA Chairman-Elect Brice Luetkemeyer with Bank of St. Elizabeth, MBA Treasurer Deron Burr with People’s Bank of Seneca, Tammy Kelley with Table Rock Community Bank in Kimberling City and Scott Nelson with Macon-Atlanta State Bank.

Since 2009, MBA and the banking community have donated more than $700,000 to Segs4Vets. “You are heroes to us because without you, we couldn’t execute our mission,” Kerr said.

This number was key to the Missouri Bankers Association’s 2019 Segs4Vets campaign. If the banking community could raise $77,000 for Segs4Vets, seven Segways could be purchased for
severely injured veterans.

Segs4VetsOnce again, banks across Missouri and their communities responded wholeheartedly.

MBA and its members donated nearly $80,400 to Segs4Vets on Thursday, Dec. 5, during the 2019 Executive Management Conference in St. Louis. Since then, donations have exceeded $84,000.

“Every year, Missouri banks show their gratitude to the men and women who protect our freedoms,” said Max Cook, MBA president and CEO. “It is truly amazing to see this outpouring of support for our veterans.”

Launched in 2005, Segs4Vets is a volunteer grassroots program that provides Segway mobile transporters and Ally chairs to help severely injured veterans. MBA adopted Segs4Vets as its designated charity in 2009.

2019 marked MBA’s 11th annual Segs4Vets fundraising campaign. Since then, MBA and its members have donated more than $700,000 to Segs4Vets.

“For the last 11 years, you have done magical, Lord’s work,” said Jerry Kerr, president and cofounder of Segs4Vets. “You represent a wide swath of men and women who have chosen to support our men and women who have served us and have become severely injured.”

The donations from the banking community given to Segs4Vets provide Segway mobile transporters and Ally chairs to help veterans choose the path of independence and remain productive members of society.

“When men and women serving our nation suffer serious injury and permanent disability, they must have resources and tools that help them live independently and contribute to society,” Kerr said. “Segs4Vets empowers these men and women, giving them a new outlook on life.”

The cost to provide a Segway is nearly $10,000. The cost for an Ally chair, a modified Segway chair, is $15,000. For every $1 donated, 98 cents supports Segs4Vets’ mission — empowering injured soldiers to live independently.

“You are heroes to us because without you, we couldn’t execute our mission,” Kerr said.

The 2019 donation from the banking community will provide eight Segways for veterans who seek mobility and independence.

“Thanks to our members, we have made a significant difference in the lives of many veterans throughout our nation,” Cook said. “I am proud of our banking community and our commitment to support the men and women who make sacrifices to support our freedoms.”
