Throughout a career spanning more than two decades of active duty service in the U.S. Marines, Lt. Col. Robert J. Darling piloted Cobra attack helicopters in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm during the first Gulf War before serving as a presidential pilot with Marine Helicopter Squadron One. In October 2000, Darling was handpicked to serve in the Airlift Operations Department for the White House Military Office. It was in this position that, during the attack of Sept. 11, 2001, he supported the president, vice president and national security adviser in the underground President’s Emergency Operations Center and witnessed unprecedented leadership and decision-making at the highest levels of our government.

Darling shares the principles of crisis leadership and decision-making as recounts the moment the attack was realized, the courageous decisions to stop it, and the safeguards and policies now in place in an attempt to prevent it from ever happening again in our country. His account of 9/11 inspires all leaders to take the necessary steps within their power to protect and safeguard their employees, their organizations and their communities.

Facebook • Twitter • LinkedIn • YouTube • GooglePlus

Community bank executives want to lead their banks to the cutting edge — not the bleeding edge. Staying one-step ahead of the competition when technology evolves so rapidly can be overwhelming. Understanding these changes and the technologic demands that Gen Xers and millennials make from both an employee and consumer standpoint could create major disruptions that lead to great success or failure. Bret Anderson knows the questions bankers need to ask and the experts who can make it work. He outlines his three-part plan for bankers to take conservative approaches to make changes in their own financial institutions and become industry leaders with a competitive advantage.

Unsettling trends that may not be obvious now — but are vivid when quantified with the right analytics — indicate more trouble ahead for the balance sheet. If community and regional banks are concerned about their existing CRE concentration issues, capital adequacy requirements and ROI, they haven't seen anything yet. These existing issues will only be aggravated in the future. Survival, from a shareholder’s value perspective, will require a radical new approach to M&A. Adam Mustafa explores why and how bankers need to view M&A with a different lens and different analytics. In doing so, it will become obvious that M&A is the unexpected magic bullet that will provide solutions to give banks a competitive edge and increased profitability.

The Edwards Twins Impersonators Show - 2 Brothers 100 Stars
Identical twin brothers Eddie and Anthony Edwards were fascinated with celebrities at a very early age. Born and raised in Burbank, California, the brothers lived near the famous NBC TV studios and would sneak in to watch the tapings of various TV shows. At home, they would then play together, mimicking the stars and memorizing the skits from “The Sonny and Cher Show,” “The Carol Burnett Show” and “Laugh In”.  Today, The Edwards Twins dazzle audiences with their impersonations of TV, movie and music stars that are “better than watching the real thing.”

It’s been six years since the financial crisis, yet pessimism persists. Budget crises, long-term unemployment, volatile foreign markets – bad news has become the “new normal.” Should we be worried about inflation or deflation? Government debt or declining demand? No wonder polls show that most Americans believe we’re still in recession and investors are sitting on cash, too afraid to get back in the market.

What if they are all wrong?

History repeats itself. The new technology revolution that is unfolding is unfolding in exactly the same manner as previous revolutions … the Industrial Revolution, the railroad revolution, electrification, mass production and the most recent information revolution.

Mark Zinder shows how changes in history serve as guideposts to changes in today’s world as the acceleration of technology prompts us to wonder what happens next.
